Camp-Curious Bisexuals Head Off To The Beach

Quite a lot has happened in Brightonbothways, the bisexual group in Brighton. The group has grown from its original eight members last October, to nearer forty. "We still meet in the Queens Head, Steyne Street, at 8.00 o"clock every Thursday" says Lisa, one of the organisers, "..and there"s always a welcome for new members. About a dozen people turn up most Thursdays. We have a good time planning yet more good times".

Membership of Brightonbothways amounts to registering on its email list, so all you need is an email address. Bisexuals new to the group don"t have to physically turn up for the socialising and of course, many prefer to pick and choose the things they participate in.

"There has been a steady stream of events this year and a couple of scare stories as well" reports Alan. "Apart from clocking up 26 drinking Thursdays in the Queens Head, we"ve gone out clubbing as a group about three times, we"ve gone swimming together about half a dozen times, including the freeze-your-bollox-off Christmas Day and New Years Day swims, we had a poetry night which was hugely entertaining, we"ve had an organised rock-climbing trip in Sussex and about 15 of us went away for five days camping by a surfing beach in Wales. We studied Helionudic Massage there and got pissed.

"But most dramatic of all was when one of our founders Susie, hugged us all hello again after travelling to Asia, then went down with typhoid 3 days later! Nobody else got it though – Susie"s selfish like that!"

As we go to press, Brightonbothways is preparing for its first participation in Pride, where it will represent bisexuals in Brighton and the surrounding area and get extra members as a result. Alan again: "There are a lot of people who would really prefer to identify as bisexual but for personal reasons, haven"t yet. It"s time to make Brightonbothways generally accessible to people who haven"t noticed us around so far, in fact we"re having an Open Day on 5th August. In the morning we"ll be in the Red Roaster, at 2pm we"ll head off to the beach in front of Poole Valley, then at 6pm we"ll resort to that long-standing favourite, the Queen"s Head. Find us at one of those. On the 8th, we"ll march with Pride and have stall in Preston Park, so you can visit us there too. Find out what we"re like".
