UK top ten destinations for Civil Partnerships
08 September 2008 21:02
With the recent figures announced for Civil Partnerships (18,059), Pink Weddings takes a deeper look into the most popular places to hold a Civil Partnership.
Brighton and Hove and Westminster seemed to be battling for first place ever since Civil Partnerships launched back in 2005, but with recent figures the top ten certainly has made its way for a few surprises
Greater Manchester
Brighton and Hove
Westminster
West Yorkshire
West Midlands
Kensington and Chelsea
Kent
Islington
Surrey
Hampshire
Edinburgh is the most popular city for Scotland
Cardiff is the most popular city for Wales
Gino Meriano Founder of Pink Weddings says "The top ten only represents 27% of the total number of Civil Partnerships formed. We should not forget the places across the UK that may not have hit the charts (so to speak) but should still be recognised such as York, Bristol, Cornwall and Suffolk which all appear in the top fifty, in addition let's celebrate and recognise every single couple that have formed a Civil partnership to help demonstrate the inclusion of same sex families in modern society.
Did you know :
London was the most popular region within the UK in which to register a partnership between Dec 05 and the end of 2006.
Up to the end of 2006, there were more male Civil Partnerships formed than female in all four countries of the UK.
It is estimated that around 10,800 Civil Partnerships will be formed in 2007 based on last year's figures.
Greater Manchester and Brighton and Hove represent 8% of all Civil Partnerships formed in the UK.
Most popular destination for overseas weddings is Canada.
Note : the stats, estimations and figures were taken from the National Statistics news release and Pink Weddings data. Areas defined as unitary authorities, counties and London boroughs (within England and Wales). Council areas (within Scotland) and health boards (within Northern Ireland)
