A CROSSPARTY group of Euro-MPs has launched a bid to free Cowes yachtsman
John Packwood, who is being held in a Madrid prison awaiting extradition to Morocco after being arrested in Malaga last month under an International
Arrest Warrant for drug smuggling.
South-East England Euro-MPs Caroline Lucas (Green), Peter Skinner (Labour),
Daniel Hannan (Conservative) and Emma Nicholson (Liberal Democrat) have called on the Moroccan authorities to drop their extradition request, claiming the case is manifestly incoherent and threatens the jobs of hundreds employed delivering boats to destinations outside the EU.
Dr Lucas, who hosted a press conference on the case in London this week, said:
This appears to be a terrible miscarriage of justice. We have called on the Moroccan authorities to drop their extradition request so Mr Packwood can be freed in time to return home for Christmas.
