EURO-MP ‘FURIOUS' AT HASTINGS LINK ROAD GO-AHEAD
‘£47m LINK ROAD WILL DESTROY VALLEY AND COST JOBS'

SUSSEX Green Party Euro-MP Caroline Lucas has reacted angrily to the
government's attempt to ‘bury' its decision to fund the proposed £47 million
Hastings-Bexhill Link Road.

Dr Lucas condemned the government's announcement of the decision on the day
Chancellor Gordon Brown dominated the headlines with his Pre-Budget Report.

"Building this road would be a disaster for local people �' it would hit town
centre redevelopment in Hastings and destroy some of the most beautiful
countryside in the South-East," she said.

"The Department for Transport has clearly taken on board the advice of its
former spin doctor Jo Moore �' sacked after advising the department to ‘bury
bad news' in the wake of the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington
�' and attempted to minimise coverage of an unpopular and ill-conceived
decision by announcing it when it knows the media
