A new club night catering for lesbians and gay men under-18 is to be launched in Bristol, with the aim to offer more space to gay teenagers.

The night, called X-Rated and hosted by the city's Vibe's club, will take place in December and will be open only to those under 18.

Organisers hope it will give young lesbians and gay men the space to experience going out together in a safe environment.

Jake Carter, the man behind the scheme, says after the launch night, they are hoping to hold the party every half term.

"The intention of doing this is to create a non-sexual environment for under 18s, so that they can experience a nightclub safely," he told GAY.COM today.

He said the idea came from a lack of a support network for LGBT people in the city.

"There is absolutely nothing else on in Bristol like this," he added.

"Other events are available for young people but the tickets are expensive and they are sponsored by people like breweries."

"We're only linked to Vibe's. This automatically makes us more independent."

Carter says he hopes around 400 people will attend the night, which is also open to straight friends of gay teens.

The club will operate a non-alcoholic bar for the night. It will also offer two rooms of music, one for pop and dance and one for indie and alternative music.

The party will be held at Vibe's on December 22 from 7pm until 11pm. Tickets cost £4.50, including a year's free membership to X-Rated and are available from The Bristol Ticket Shop in Broadmead.
