A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was stabbed to death in a public toilet in Surrey.
Officers said the 29-year-old man handed himself in at Newbury police station, Berkshire, on Wednesday.

The victim, in his 50s, was discovered in Walton Lane, Walton-on-Thames, at about 1500 GMT on Tuesday. He has not yet been named.

He was taken by air ambulance to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey, but pronounced dead at 1730 GMT.

The suspect will be questioned by detectives from the Surrey Major Crime Team.

Information sought

Appealing for witnesses, a spokeswoman for Surrey Police said the victim, who was gay, was stabbed in toilets at Walton Bridge, an area known as a popular meeting place for men.

She said: "Early indications lead police to believe that he might have known his attacker though we don't know in what context or for how long.

"Detectives are appealing for information not only from the general public but also specifically from members of the gay community."

Walton Lane and Walton Bridge were closed following the attack and a police dog unit and the Surrey Police helicopter searched the cordoned-off area.

Police said the victim would not be formally identified until all next of kin had been notified.
